Introduction to Consulting

Approach on the basis of measurements
Management Drives Consulting distinguishes itself by focusing on objective measurements and basing its approach on those measurements – or, in other words, a transparent and verifiable approach. Paramount importance is attached to the organization’s interests, and for this reason we begin with the task that needs to be carried out. Individuals need to be suited to the task, and consequently individuals’ drives also need to be suited to their duties; individuals can exhibit a good performance only once this condition is met. However, the next question is whether people and groups can collaborate with each other. The Management Drives approach is based on the principle that organizations are comprised of sub-cultures, and that each sub-culture must be suited to its duties. Everyone will understand, for example, that a sales team will need exhibit a very different culture from that of the accounts department. Consequently different sub-cultures are both necessary and productive; however, this will also inevitably result in tension. Management Drives is also ideally suited to resolving tension, since the measurement results readily reveal which individuals from the various sub-cultures are nevertheless able to collaborate and communicate with each other.

Managers and staff
The relationship between managers and their staff is also an issue which receives attention from Management Drives’ consultants. It will be self-evident that staff will not be able to exhibit an adequate performance when they are not managed in an appropriate manner. We are of the opinion that managers must supplement their staff, but without this giving cause to irritation or communications problems. This can also readily be analyzed – and predicted – on the basis of measurement results. The following is a simple example: staff with a high Blue score will greatly appreciate a manager who gives them explicit instructions for their work, whilst this is the last thing staff with high Orange and Yellow scores will want; a manger who tells them how to do their work will drive them nuts. Consequently the management style exerts a great influence, and it has a quantifiable effect on performance.
